Channel Your Rage
Updated: Aug 19

When I was growing up, I had no voice - literally. If I spoke I got punished by the couple that adopted me; if I remained silent I got punished for the expression on my face.
One of my favorite rage outlets was listening to Nine Inch Nails (NIN). The words and rage that spewed out of Trent's mouth were what I wished I could speak. On my 21st birthday, when I attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, I attended a NIN concert in Albany, NY. I snuck in a bottle of cheap champagne in my pants...in case I got a pat down. And then enjoyed the bottle while walking up and down the isles of the concert venue.
Fast forward to when NIN played at the Red Hat Amphitheatre in Raleigh, NC. By this time, I was a Holistic Nutritionist. When my husband and I went to Will Call to pickup our tickets, he mentioned something about meeting Trent. I told Tony I didn't want to meet him back stage, because of I did I would try to heal him from his horrible childhood, which would ruin his music career.
Here's a second example of channeling rage: Sinead O'Connor. She was another artist that shouted out my feelings I was never allowed to verbalize growing up. HOWEVER, while I was attending college, she had a baby and released the MOST BORING ALBUM playing the piano.
Great art is created with extremely strong emotions, and the best (for me) is created when someone is expressing NEGATIVE emotions. Songs that sing positive emotions are not relatable to me and are boring. I think the pain someone has creates beautiful pieces for me to enjoy.
That leads me into my blog post. Here is an example of how I expressed my rage for people shooting up Twin Lakes Park in Durham, NC.
I created 3 art projects, with project #4 in the works with various types of spent ammo, my biggest art project, with at least 37 rounds of someone shooting various guns. Did someone get MURDERED? I have no clue. I do know someone shot a goose a few years ago that perished, from a City of Durham Police Officer's mouth.
I have a bracelet I made with 9MM lugars I found at Twin Lakes Park. I made a project for President Donald Trump with a shotgun spent ammo and lots of 9MM to help him and Melanie Trump heal from Trauma from attempted assassinations. I wonder 🤔 did the U.S. Secret Service give them my present?
My favorite is this vicious necklace. I won awards at Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills, MI, for my fine arts when I attended high school there. I have always made art that you could wear, but you probably would not wear. Case in point, the necklace I made with spent 9MM lugars and two varieties of Chinese throwing stars, the black set I purchased from Daniel's Army Surplus in Butner, NC and a multi-colored set I purchased from Forged in Fantasy at the Triangle Town Center in Raleigh, NC. I wore this necklace a couple of times, and the sharp points made marks on my chest, so I retired it to hang with my martial arts sashes I earned before using my self-employed Accounting-Consulting net income to go to China for my birthday (https://reddragonleominpin.wordpress.com/2018/03/02/china-2004/).
I channeled my rage of people shooting guns at Twin Lakes Park for fun or for trying to harm another human into this AMAZING piece of art instead of acting out and perpetrating harm on innocent people.
Channelling rage into something beautiful helps you heal from your own past hurts.
